Thoughts: Another Webcomic Comes to an End

I only recently came across Anders Loves Maria from another webcomic I was following and thought I'd give it a try. As I went on page by page, I found myself hooked to the story of the main characters. Their love, their heartaches, the struggles they went through as a couple and as standalone characters.

You'd think that the story was kind of Dawson Creek-ish because of how each character got tangled with each other, but there's more to it than just the entanglement. Despite all the squabbles the couple had, their love shone through and they stayed together.

However, like all good things, Anders and Maria, too, has come to a close. I've never felt this awed at a webcomic love story since You'll Have That, to be honest. Maria's death post partum was a sad but meaningful end. But their love doesn't stop there. Maria left a baby girl which Anders so fittingly named Maria. As from what I read from the last strip, little Maria is turning out to be just like her mom.

Although I had a feeling that the older Maria would die of childbirth, I still couldn't help but feel like crying at her parting.

Kudos to Rene Engstrom for creating such a powerful story of love that surpasses all obstacles. I will miss reading about Anders and Maria. It was a well written love story interpreted in a medium that even the younger generation will like. I wish the comics didn't have to end, but this is what it is.

Thank you, Ms. Engstrom, for giving us this lovely webcomic. And thank you, Anders and Maria. Farewell.

-note- If it hadn't been for a spam commenter, I wouldn't have noticed that the image I originally added to this post was replaced with something horrible. Thanks, Mr. Spammer.
